No machine has ever managed to crochet.
Knitting was mechanised in 1589. Weaving in the 1780s. Two hundred years on, crochet still has no machine at all, and the reason is mechanical rather than sentimental: it is built one loop at a time, into fabric that nothing holds in place.
Which is why every piece we make takes days, comes out slightly different, and was made by a woman with a hook.
